I competed in NAM for years. I earned runner up titles year after year.
No matter how much I practiced or changed up what I did I always got a runner up spot. The last year I competed I realized it was rigged and was never going to win. I noticed this for a few reasons: I would get the highest scores in the division but wouldn't earn Queen because the judges 'rank' you in the finale. I also saw the winner's parents walking out of the room with the judges where they clearly paid them off.
I took it as a life lesson that we didn't always get what we truly deserve. Although I feel I became poised and well-spoken from my years of competing, I regret wasting my parent's hard earned money and all my time on something that is clearly illegitimate and manipulative.
