You are absolutely right! They just see dollar signs.

They tell you it's optional and when they give out awards for the optional it truly makes the other girls feel sad inside. They are the biggest scam of all.

As a former NAM Queen, I also did Top Model. I won Top Model and lost Screentest and Photogenic.

Remember they have a lot of girls competing and the judges look for who they think was the best. That doesn't mean it was a scam its just how the competitions work.

My experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I am posting after my experience at the pageant. I do like NAM and it is an over all fun experience. I have 2 concerns but just wondering. My daughter is blonde and she told me that becsuse she was blonde and the title holder is blonde that they will not pick another blonde for this year. A brunette won. Nam is fair with diversity but the hair color seems to change every other year. Just wondering if that is intentional. I do think the top 15 were very deserving of being top 15. My second concern was that I noticed that those who sell the most advertisement with NAM which makes the money for NAm seem to be in the top 15 frequently. My question us does this influence there judging? Besides all that I do think NAM is alot of fun for the girls.

Not worth it—-very unfair.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Just finished with the state pageant in Birmingham. Found it to be money making scam. Very unfair system. No training which they claim money for. Very unfair judging. The deserving do not make it to top 10 but the ones who do not know to even speak a sentence make it there. Would never recommend it to anyone. They need to stop doing this.

Dont do it if you are going to want a refund. They keep the money!

Anyone who is giving this company five stars is a liar. This company is so ridiculous. I called due to my daughter having a dance competition on the same date as her first pageant experience and tried to get a refund and was told that it is held in an account until next year. I said what if she didn't want to participate next year. I was told well the money will sit in an account and for every year she does not participate they will deduct $20 from it. I was like what. That doesn't make sense so when you deduct it where is it going? That's when she proceeded to tell me there were no refunds and she gave me the pages that it was written on in the booklet. If this sticks I would have lost $520 dollars. Either way I am glad we pulled out before they got more. I hope this company eventually falls apart.

They are in it for themselves, not the particpants

My 16 year old daughter was selected as a "State Finalist" which made her feel valued. When we went to the training for "State Finalists" we were charged $275 (half of the fee to be a contestant, which they call sponsor fee). To participate in the actual "pageant" the contestant needs pay and additional fee of $50-75. My daughter spent her $275 which is hard to come by for someone her age. The dates of the pageant don't work for our schedule so I asked for a refund but they have a strict no cancellation policy but the hustle is all that you are to pay to be involved when all the girls that were selected are "State Finalists". Be warned this is a mill, that they can lure unsuspecting girls into thinking they are part of something that is actually a mirage.

Unsolicited - Stalking

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

We received an unsolicited letter from "Breanne Ewing, State Director" of National American Miss (NAM).

No phone number is listed for her directly, but you can call 402 881 **** or email statehq@***.com which is listed as 6227 S 171st St, Omaha, NE 68135 and enter your "invitation number."

We have a low profile on the internet, but do have pictures of the children in Facebook profile pictures. We will be removing them and sharing the info about this strange solicitation. I suspect they only send out www.missouriopencall.com in order to raise funds for their "organization." I want to know how the *** they got our address.

Don't fall for this scam. They aren't even BBB rated and have a 2.5 star rating.... it screams of pedophilia....

Hi! I'm a Breanne Ewing State Queen!

Its not a scam! its extremely fun! When I got my open call letter it was because teachers, peers and others can recommend your child for it.

I was recommended by a highs school student. I totally advise on this platform!

We are in AZ and we got a post card as well. Yes it is expensive but anything is now. My daughter did competitive cheer and it was 5000 mid season.

Guest

Yes, I've called and messages them for days and no replies back. I'm starting to feel angry that I can't get a hold of anyone. Paid for half the sponser fee already Rrrrrr!.

Guest

They get your info from girls that have competed in the past.

Guest

They are not legitimate you are asked to give alot of money they ask you to solicit friends and family for money they have different judges and accept anyone. There is plenty of info online about them..big scam

Guest

The NAM organization is real. They got your address from someone who must know or be aquainted with you.

My daughter received a similar card to an open call. They are legitimate. She competed last year in the teen division.

Nothing inappropriate occured with my daughter at NAM Wisconsin 2018. She learned valuable skills preparing for the pageant.

Excellent experienced for our daughter.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

It was our first time to attend NAM event in Scottsdale, AZ on July 26-29, 2019. We did not signed up on all the options for the contest.

My daughter won the Junior Teen category and holding that title.for a year. She still cannot believed that she won. I know that there are lots of parents saying that this is a scam and it is not worthy for our kids. Some said that if we did not signed up in all the options and pay the big amount, there is no way we can get the crown.

But they were all wrong. NAM is not a scam. Our attitude that we instill to our daughter that day when we travel to Scottsdale, AZ was simple. We prayed to our God that whatever we get, we will be happy.

We told our daughter do her best because she is the one doing all the work. But she got the crown for the first time. We both are very proud of our daughter and now she will be busy. Getting ready for November 2019 National.

We wish you the best Roniesha. God is with you.

It is obvious that the only reason you are happy is because your daughter won. This pageant system is very unfair and is heavily based on Politics, especially when you attend the National level in California.

Daughter selected as possible candidate for modeling!!

I received a letter today from NAM informing me that “your daughter was selected as a possible candidate who may enjoy modeling, acting, or learning stage techniques that will help empower & enable her to accomplish her future goals.” This peaked my interest as I noticed the age groups ... My youngest daughter will be 33 years old in December!! LOL Time to Scam Hunt ... Someone in one of the complaints was wondering how NAM got THEIR Contact Information ... This is my theory going off the letter I received ... I have a granddaughter & I ordered the Highlights Hello Magazine (age3-5) for her, in my name, sent to my address! NAM is probably buying addresses from companies who deal with children & young adults in some form from companies like Highlights!! They probably think I have a daughter age appropriate because I’m receiving the Highlights Hello Magazine! Whoops... Huge Mistake NAM! So for those receiving this letter & wondering how or why ... NAM most likely purchased your address from someone as they did mine! By the way ... My granddaughter is only 2 ... You have to be at least 4 to be in the NAM program! She doesn’t even qualify!! LOL I hope this helps the person who was wondering & I hope it helps others!!

Disgusting—-they need to be closed down

Just finished with my daughter’s first and last ever pageant—-princess category. I was very disappointed by the mean staff.

They look at you as if you are not welcome. Judges are awful. They don’t know judging at all. The most confident girl does not get anything and the one who does not know to speak becomes the winner.

This pageant is not about being confident but it breaks your confidence. When one who deserves does not make it to the stage her confidence breaks.

It is a pathetic and disgusting program. Would never advise anyone to go for it.Nobody should give them the right to decide who is pretty and confident.

This is one of the best pageant systems around. Why do you not like it?

Because she didn't win?

I've been with them for over 15 years my daughter's oldest nt to youngest competed and compared to others they competed always came back to Nam the judges were so nice and Nam staff treats you like family. Not sure what your problem is

Was it June as in last month ???? Which state .

I am surprised as most have reported good things . I am sorry no one should feel this way.

Best system ever. Perfect for newcomers

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My daughters have been competing in NAM for over 11 years. They have gained so much confidence and poise from this systems. Each year they get better and better and learn more and more how to be successful when competing and speaking. I highly recommend this system to anyone who wants to get their daughter involved in pageants or help with self confidence. We have made so many life long friends because of this system.

*** I guess they have paid you to post this. They do not promote confidence but make the girls who do not win less confident and cry as they look down on themselves then. They break confidence and not build it.

All the work is done via the money the parent pays for coaching, wardrobe and extras that the pageants bamboozles you into believing will give your daughter a leg up to the crown. NAM does nothing but collect, promote the winner and they won't even remember your kid if they tripped over her.

NAM is a business not an organization to promote healthy values to young women. IF you don't have money to throw away stay away from NAM.

Invest in your child's academic future. Find ways for her to win in her community by volunteering let the rewards reaped from all the hard work belong to your child not to the future of NAM so that all the flunkies can get paid to travel and promote a farce.

My daughter was invited to the open call

I have not went yet but from Reading Post on how much you have to pay for certain things is so ridiculous my daughter is 6 years old and it would be her first I don't believe that you would have to pay for someone to tell you to smile or walk a certain way yeah I agree with the hotel expenses but you got to buy dresses and other outfits I do not want to pay thousand dollars to put her in this and then it would be a failure of her getting nothing so I just want to know exactly how much does it cost for the open call casting? if she gets into the next part of the pageant how much does that cost? after that if she gets picked for the actual n a m pageant what is the overall cost? I need to know this so I don't get her hopes up thank you!

Money Maker

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

After spending to have pageant training, buying all the “correct” attire, and covering traveling cost I would say NAM is a huge scam. I am not doubting that it helps build self confidence and is enjoyable for the children but that is the pitch they brain wash in your head from the first time you attend an open call. Every parent wants to give their children an experience of a lifetime. However, almost everyone who placed in the princess division age 4-6 had already turn 7 this year and was as they say “pageant” trained. I am not saying they didn’t deserve it, I just think when you put a 6 to 7 yr old up against a new 4-5 year old obviously their is going to be a huge difference in the performance.

Now let’s talk casual wear...from what they said, just wear your favorite outfit you have in your closet. Then you see these girls on stage wearing costume like outfits. If that is what you are looking for then say wear your most creative piece.

Interview attire was suppose to be professional suit or dress with a sweater. I don’t know, but I am pretty sure some of the outfits I saw on the winners would never be one I would want to see walk into my office for their first interview and try to get a job. Then you have the introduction/resume, in school teachers do not want the parents doing their homework so when you are are competing in a 4-6 age group you probably should not have your parents or pageant coach write your introduction. Kudos to the girls for memorizing them and pulling them off. I just remember sitting their listening to them and thinking how fake they sounded. Half of the girls were natural intros and half were “pageant perfect”. I don’t think I need to say which ones ended up on stage that night of finals.

Overall, I was proud of my daughter for doing so well for her first pageant. I knew going into it that it was a long shot. I wanted to believe it was not the scam that everyone says it is. I will continue to let my daughter compete in other pageants if she wishes. I just think NAM needs to reevaluate their intentions. Be true to the type of pageant you are and not manipulate people into believing something completely different.

For all of you who have your daughter win and will knock my opinion...remember everyone is entitled to their opinion and everyone’s experiences in life are different.

My question is, where did this organization get my daughters address in the first place. I've never solicited this organization nor any other business of this type. This is sensitive information and I'm a little disturbed that this type of info is up for grabs by who knows who.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1652332

They asked the girls for recommendations, and someone actually wins a trophy for the most recommendations. So the girls in the pageant or their parents make a list of every girl they know with their address.

Some girls go overboard and list everybody in their Church directory or middle school yearbook or whatever. Say there are 50 girls in your age division, and each girl turns in 100 names. That’s 5000 cards that go out the next year. You don’t have to respond to the card and you don’t have to go to the pageant.

You can just throw it out with the rest of what you considered junk mail if you want to. But that’s how you got a card.

Guest

Accurately well said. You can’t deny facts,

Guest

Your comments come from a place of not understanding pageants. Did you do any research?

Did you look on Facebook? How about on YouTube. If not, you did your daughter an injustice. Would you accept a job at a company without understanding what the company does?

Would you send your child to a school or college without doing some searching? How about buying a Home?

Guest

Well first off, I did do research on the pageant and paid for pageant coaching. Maybe you should learn to comprehend what you read before you comment.

There are many different types of pageants and I get that. I am going strictly based off the information we were given at the NAM sessions we participated in.

Next time you want to put your comment on something think before you speak. Your comment is irrelavnt to what I wrote about.

Parents should not write a contestants answers. PERIOD.

THIS IS CALLED CHEATING. PERIOD. If you think otherwise you are delusional. What a terrible life lesson to give your young, impressionable daughter.

"Don't worry sweetie, Mommy will will fill in the answers on the the pageant test. It's okay to cheat as long as we WIN!"
